Successful women have a few traits in common. They:
- Can be very hard on themselves.
- Face problems rather than ignore them.
- Are quite compassionate.
- Feel that a good day is one where they’ve gotten a lot done.
- Wonder why even bother sometimes. “Does anyone else even notice?”
- Have a hard time allowing themselves to relax.
- Know that the secret to getting even more done is to allow time to recharge.
Does any of that ring a bell for you?
Welcome to the club! 🙂
There are many things that you know are true. But for some reason, many women have a hard time applying that to themselves. Case in point: taking time to relax even when there’s so much to be done.
Everyone Else Really IS Doing It
Look around you. No, not at the other moms. Not at the other women. But at everyone.
What are they all doing?
They’re having fun. They’re relaxing. They’re savoring the moment.
Luckily for you, summer is a season that makes it a lot easier to say yes to a little R&R in your life. I’ve got three ways that will make it easier for you to say “Yes!” to yourself this summer!
From ending the work week early on Friday’s in the summer, to sneaking in a few holes of golf or going to summer camp, to heading off to the beach for the afternoon- everyone is finding ways to bring some fun into their life.
Are you?
Build It In Your Schedule Just Like an Appointment
Avoid letting the resentment build up by taking a moment now at the beginning of the summer to incorporate in some time each week for you to actually do something fun and relaxing.
Do you know why those other people are doing those awesome things?
They made time for it. It became a priority for them, not just another item on a wish list. Yes, even eating ice cream becomes a priority because you stop what you’re doing to go get some of the creamy cold stuff.
Your neighbor is reading books by the pool because she makes it a part of her schedule. Your sister is sitting on the porch savoring the shrimp pasta salad she craves each summer because she makes time to do it.
Stop procrastinating fun! For real! Just go do it!
Look Forward to It
It’s a lot easier to choose an afternoon curled up with a good book over getting the laundry folded the moment the dryer turns off when you’ve allowed yourself the joy of thinking about it.
By quickly dismissing those simple pleasures out of your mind because there are “more important things” to do, you’re making it far easier to veer to the laundry room rather than the overstuffed chair in the corner.
What you think about becomes a reality in the split second you have to choose between “taking care of me” and “folding the clothes that end up on the floor anyway.
Not only will taking the time to enjoy something fun and relaxing help you to be more productive, but it will also improve your mood, boost your physical health, and it will teach people around you that you do matter. They’ll be more likely to appreciate what you do- and less likely to expect you to do it all.
So give it a try, and see what a difference it makes for you!
